Our Story

Passionate about bridging the gap in mental health support:

Emotional Wellbeing Group (EWG) was founded in 2019 in response to a growing need for easy-to-access, affordable counselling and mental health support in Wigan and the surrounding areas. What began as a focus on online counselling has since grown to include in-person, face-to-face counselling, ensuring support is accessible in the way that works best for each individual.

Many people experiencing relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, stress, or emotional distress find that private counselling is unaffordable, while other mental health services like the NHS often involve long waiting times. At EWG, we believe these barriers should never prevent someone from getting the help they need.

That’s why we provide free and low-cost counselling services, designed to be easy to access, supportive, and inclusive. Alongside counselling, we offer guidance, emotional support, and signposting to additional services where needed.

We are passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to counselling and mental health support, regardless of their financial situation. As a not-for-profit counselling organisation in Wigan, our work is driven by the needs of the community and supported through donations and funding.

Why Is support important?

◾ Many of us don’t think about mental health and wellbeing until it becomes a problem, and when it’s a problem that is often the hardest time to try and figure it out for ourselves.
◾ Using counselling can be a way of looking at your situation from a different perspective and being able to think about your feelings and experiences with the help of someone who is non judgemental and is separate to your situation.
◾ Counsellors can help you to connect with how you are feeling, to think in a different way about your problems, to think about positive change and also to give you tools to help start making these changes.

◾ Relationships are also an important part of our lives, creating connections with loved ones, family, friends and colleagues can help us to feel stronger, more supported and helps with mental and physical health.
◾ Relationships are something that we need to work on as everyone has differing expectations or desires. It is important to be able to communicate about your own needs as in some cases relationships don’t meet our expectations and we may struggle to communicate that effectively. When this happens it can be hard to find a resolution.
◾ By speaking to a professional, you can learn more about yourself while also receiving the support and guidance you may need to get back on track.
