Our Story
Our Story
Emotional Wellbeing Group (EWG) is a community-centred mental health and wellbeing organisation founded in 2019 in response to the growing need for accessible, supportive and inclusive mental health support in Wigan and the surrounding areas. What began with a focus on affordable counselling and relationship support has evolved into a broader mission: promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience and connection across the whole community.
We believe that everyone deserves access to support that helps them understand, manage and improve their mental health — whether through compassionate conversation, practical tools, trusted information, training, or connection with others. At EWG we work with individuals, families, couples, young people, men, women, LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities to create spaces where wellbeing is prioritised and support is accessible for all.
Our work is grounded in the belief that improving mental health shouldn’t only happen at crisis point. We support people earlier through information and self-help resources, free mental health chats, capacity-building training for community groups and partnerships with local services and public health initiatives.
Our Mission
To promote and protect the mental health and emotional wellbeing of individuals and communities by providing accessible support, practical tools, guidance and training that meets people where they are. We strive to reduce barriers to support, strengthen resilience, encourage safe and boundaried conversations about wellbeing, and help people navigate their wellbeing journey with dignity and connection.

Why Is support important?
◾ Many of us don’t think about our mental health and wellbeing until something feels overwhelming. Often, when things reach that point, it can feel difficult to know where to begin or how to cope alone.◾ Support isn’t only for crisis. Early conversations, practical tools, trusted information and compassionate listening can all help prevent difficulties from becoming more complex.◾ Speaking with a trained professional, accessing a wellbeing resource, joining a workshop, or even having a guided mental health chat can offer a different perspective and help you better understand your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe and non-judgemental space.◾Developing awareness of how we feel allows us to make positive changes. With the right support, we can build resilience, strengthen coping strategies and feel more confident navigating life’s challenges.◾ Relationships and community connections play a vital role in our wellbeing. Feeling heard, valued and supported by others can improve both mental and physical health. Learning how to communicate effectively and set healthy boundaries strengthens those connections.◾ Everyone’s journey is different. Whether you need someone to talk to, practical self-help tools, guidance on next steps, or training to better support others, reaching out for support is a positive and proactive step.Counselling Support
